Right from the first glance, the baroque ensemble at Schlossplatz is an impressive sight. The square and its surrounding structures were built in the middle of the 18th century based on designs by the famous architect Friedrich Joachim Stengel. The castle dominates the entire South-Eastern side of the square. Several of the baroque buildings surrounding the square as well as the square itself had to be rebuilt after being heavily damaged in World War II, including the Kreisständehaus (former seat of the district administration), the Old Town Hall und the so-called Erbprinzenpalais (Hereditary Prince’s Palace), built by the Prince for his son...
